Missions is not only a doctrine. It is an intentional practice. It is what Christians do. Like most other skills, it is learned by doing. Therefore, we believe missions is best discovered in the context of cross-cultural ministry rather than in a stuffy classroom.
The WIM training program for missionary candidates flows from our core values of committed relationships and ministry through mentoring and discipleship. A variety of opportunities are available to you through WIM. To simply get a taste for missions, you can join us for a brief international experience with our short-term department, WIM Expeditions (WIM X). If you are looking more seriously into long-term ministry, consider attending WIM Orientation and Training, a week packed with classes designed to help you confirm and fulfill your calling. Once complete, you may be considered for our advanced internship and apprenticeship opportunities.
Orientation
If you sense a call from God but are unsure where to begin, consider taking the first step with World Indigenous Missions. Jump into a solid week of orientation and pre-field training that includes engaging instructors, life-shaping moments and relationship building. During this time you’ll learn practical skills that will empower you to serve God in whatever capacity you are called.
Internship
After orientation, set your sights on an internship with WIM. There are a variety of programs to fit your desires, needs, and calling. An internship is real-life experience in cross-cultural ministry ranging from ten weeks to six months. Culture shock becomes a reality as your whole world changes, communications become tangled in misunderstandings, and the food isn’t exactly your grandmother’s cooking. Because of the cultural challenges, an internship is a valuable opportunity to see God transform and refine you.
Apprenticeship
Once your support team and commissioning church are behind you, then you are ready for your apprenticeship. The best learning combines personal study with practical experience under a “master”—in this case a senior missionary. This is a true mentor/disciple model. Apprenticeships normally last two years, during which you begin to grasp the language, culture and ministry format of a given region. Upon completion, you will be recognized as a full-time missionary of WIM and qualified to minister as God leads you.
Start Today
Begin by completing our preliminary questionnaire so that we can become acquainted with you and your vision for ministry. Saints around the globe are praying that God would send out workers into His harvest field. You might be an answer to their prayers. If you have any questions, contact us.
