What is the National Day of Prayer?

Enacted in 1952 by President Harry S. Truman, the National Day of Prayer calls for Americans of all backgrounds to join together and pray for our nation and its leaders. The National Day of Prayer website states that the theme this year is Pray for America – UNITY, based upon Ephesians 4:3 which challenges us to mobilize unified public prayer for America, “Making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” Many communities throughout the United States hold various events and meetings in observance of National Day of Prayer. These events include prayer breakfasts, community gatherings, and National Day of Prayer church services. To find an event near you or to find ways to volunteer, be sure to visit the National Day of Prayer website here.
