Charlie and Sharon Steffler

Charlie and Sharon joined WIM in 2003 after serving two years in Peru with another missions organization. It was there they fell in love with indigenous peoples and the need to plant churches where there are none. Finding WIM gave them the platform to do just that.  While living and working among a marginalized indigenous people group in Mexico, they planted three churches in Circle of Silence, all of which remain active today. Their strategy was, and continues to be, to practice Jesus' command to "Let your light shine so that men may see your good works and God be glorified." Time and again they have seen that ministering "to the least of these" and simply loving people in their areas of felt need consistently open doors for sharing the gospel of the Kingdom and lay a careful foundation upon which the gospel can naturally flow.

In their senior years, God began preparing them to return Stateside to family and home missions — not to retirement. They relocated to Texas in 2022 to an area with a high Hispanic population where they continue their strategy of letting Jesus shine by meeting people in their areas of felt needs.  While still heavily involved with their Mexico church plants, their home missions focus is uniquely multi-faceted in the following areas:

  • Hispanic church plant in their Texas community,
  • Immigration Prison Ministry, where Charlie preaches the Gospel and disciples Hispanics before they are deported to their home country,
  • Teaching and mentoring in a rehabilitation center,
  • Leadership and teaching in their local church, and
  • Sharon teaching/mentoring/translating in a local high school.

While Stateside, they've also had the privilege of seeing one grandson graduate from both high school and college, and Christian married and gave them a new grandson.  They love being close enough to actively participate in family life.
